Pruning

Each tree species will react to different environmental conditions and cultural practices. We focus on the specific needs of the individual trees on your property.

  • Many variables are taken into account when providing a pruning program, including but not limited to: tree/plant species, climatic history, soil conditions, growing space, root system, pruning history, irrigation, and fertilization practices.
  • Our goal is to provide your tree/plant with the proper method or a combination of methods of pruning to achieve your goals with regards to health. In carrying out your pruning program we are also promoting longevity and safety which are two important factors in any tree care program.

A qualified Arborist will evaluate your trees/plants and provide a detailed description of pruning recommendations and goals to better develop your trees into a sustainable and more aesthetically pleasing part of your landscape. Rather than reacting to complications we offer a pro-active, more economical approach in caring for your landscape.

Improper pruning is harmful in that it can create a hazard, causing damage that will remain with a tree for its entire life, or even shorten a tree’s lifespan. Improper pruning can be a significant health stress for a tree.  We follow ANSI and International Society of Arboriculture standards along with Collier and Lee County codes for pruning.

Young Tree Pruning
Proper pruning is essential in developing a tree with a strong structure and desirable form. This pruning ensures performance, safety and minimizes future maintenance costs. Unfortunately, proper training is not a standard practice in nurseries. Many homeowners wait until the tree is out of control before performing any pruning. Thus, trees may acquire several structural defects that become a liability, damage property, or cause personal injury.

  • Trees that receive the appropriate pruning measures while they are young will require minimal corrective pruning when they mature.
  • Young tree training reduces structural defects such as co-dominant stems, multiple trunks, weak attachments and dense canopies.
  • Training lowers hazard potential allowing trees to live longer and suffer less damage during a wind event.

Mature Tree Pruning
Mature trees require a higher level of care to maintain their safety and aesthetics. Pruning should only be completed with an understanding of how the tree responds to each cut. Because each cut has the potential to change the growth of the tree, no branch should be removed without a reason. Mature trees can not handle improper pruning well or removal of too much foliage as they become easily stressed. In most cases, mature trees are pruned as a corrective or preventive measure.

  • Proper pruning can maintain good tree health and structure while enhancing the aesthetic and economic value.
  • Most routine pruning to remove weak, diseased, or dead limbs with the proper percentage of foliage removed with respect to species can be accomplished at any time during the year with little effect on the tree.
